In Good Company: Jody & Amanda from Trash & Treasure

We're delighted to interview two true Ealing heroes and cheerleaders of Ealing talent, Amanda and Jody, the dynamic duo behind Trash & Treasure Markets. Their journey began with a simple desire: to bring something fresh and vibrant to the people of Ealing while championing the incredible talent of local traders in the borough. Through their vintage and street food markets, they've not only created spaces for laughter and dance but also witnessed the growth of small businesses, fostered collaborations, and forged new friendships within the warm community of Ealing and beyond.

As they share their favourite Ealing haunts with us today, Amanda and Jody have provided us with exclusive insights into the exciting events lined up for Trash & Treasure Markets in 2024. From the popular Street Food Friday Night Markets at the Brentham Club to the vibrant Eats n Beats at Greenford Quays, complete with DJs, food trucks, and a licensed bar, there's something for everyone to enjoy. And let's not forget the family-friendly Street Food Market for the Greenford Summer Series, promising activities for kids and funky tunes to groove to.

But the excitement doesn't stop there. Amanda and Jody have also launched the Brentford Social Sundays Market, a delightful addition to the local scene. With sunny days, bustling crowds, and a lineup of fantastic local street food traders, these markets are quickly becoming a highlight for residents and visitors alike. And mark your calendars for the Brentford Canal Festival this June, where Trash & Treasure Markets will be serving up culinary delights alongside the vibrant festivities...

At what point in your life did you first move to Ealing?
I (Amanda) am a true Ealing native, having grown up on Pitshanger Lane. Jody, on the other hand, hails from Glasgow but made the move from Barcelona in 2015 to the sunny streets of Northfields!

If you were introducing someone to Ealing for the first time, how would you describe it?
Ealing boasts a rich cultural heritage, particularly renowned for its vibrant music scene. As the birthplace of Jazz and Blues, our town has played host to legendary acts, including The Rolling Stones, who frequented Ealing College and performed at The Ealing Club. Moreover, Ealing Film Studios have been the backdrop to countless iconic films. Our connection to music, film, and the arts is something we take immense pride in.

Do you have a preferred local watering hole in Ealing?
This is a tough one, given the abundance of fantastic options. Let's just say that Ealing is brimming with delightful establishments to quench your thirst!

Where have you enjoyed your most memorable meal in Ealing?
We are big fans of 'TanVan,' a Vietnamese gem located at 17 The Green in Ealing. Their original beef pho is simply delicious, especially when paired with a Vietnamese espresso martini for the perfect culinary experience.

Is there a particular independent store in Ealing that holds a special place in your heart?
We adore The WA Cafe on Haven Green for its exquisite plum tea and matcha tiramisu, as well as Pulp for their mouthwatering Scrollsants and impressive wine selection.

Which part of Ealing do you find particularly inspiring or serene?
For moments of tranquility and inspiration, you'll often find us in one of our beautiful parks, with Gunnersbury, Walpole, and Lammas topping the list of favourites.

What's on the horizon for you?
Currently, we're bustling with activity as we organise our T&T Markets 2024 calendar of events. After expanding our reach to other parts of London last year, including our successful 'Leadenhall Lunchtime' in the heart of The City Of London, we've been providing street food for events in W1 and catering to birthdays, private parties, and more. Our commitment to supporting local businesses through our markets remains unwavering, with a continued focus on our beloved Ealing Markets. From our Street Food Fridays at The Brentham Club to The Greenford Quay's Summer Series and our new market, The Brentford Social Sunday Market, there's plenty in store.
