Ealing Storytime: Charlie Chaplin
Back with another Ealing storytime and this time about a Hollywood legend...
#didyouknow that Charlie Chaplin moved to Hanwell at the age of 7? Chaplin's parents, who were both music hall performers, had separated and life became hard for his mother. She was forced to move into the Lambeth Union Workhouse in 1896 and Charlie, along with his half-brother Sydney, was moved into a school for destitute children called Cuckoo School, which is now the Hanwell Community Centre.
Chaplin never forgot the school and once organised coaches to take all of the pupils to see one of his films.
