As the year comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect on moments that made 2024 so special. One of my proudest highlights was the launch of the first-ever print issue of Ealing Living Magazine in September. The cover featured a stunning autumnal photograph of Ealing Green, beautifully captured by talented local photographer Derrick Mills. Derrick has an incredible ability to capture the soul of Ealing, from its charming green spaces to its bustling streets, with each image telling a story.

1. Your photography has a unique and captivating style. How would you describe your approach to capturing images, and what makes your work stand out?
Being immersed in the community every day is at the heart of my approach to capturing captivating images. Whether I’m walking, biking, or running around Ealing, I’m always on the lookout for everyday moments that stand out. Sometimes, I pass by a scene several times before noticing an image worth capturing—it often depends on the time of day, season, or activity taking place. When I finally discover something special, I return with my camera, snapping away until I capture the perfect shot that tells a story—a moment that resonates with people familiar with the area. I believe this connection is what makes my work truly stand out.
2. Ealing has so much character, from its green spaces to its vibrant community. What aspects of Ealing inspire your photography, and how do you bring them to life through your lens?
Ealing’s charm inspires my photography, from its green spaces and historic pubs to Ealing Studios and its vibrant culture. I focus on capturing everyday moments that resonate with locals—familiar scenes that tell personal stories. One of my most notable works, for example, shows a London double-decker bus coming up Ealing Green Road, framed by vibrant orange leaves on a classic autumn day. It’s a scene all locals can relate to, yet one I had to capture myself, as no image like it existed. These connections bring my work to life, celebrating the community’s vibrancy and sparking joy and cherished memories.
