Celebrating Black-Owned Businesses in Ealing for Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month, we’re highlighting some incredible Black-owned businesses in the Ealing area. We had the pleasure of speaking with three inspiring entrepreneurs: Alisha from Present Your Joy, Kim from The Pretty Parlour, and Korine from K’s Cocktails. Each shared what motivated them to start their business and how their experiences as members of the Black community have shaped their entrepreneurial journeys.

Korine from K's Cocktails

Korine’s cocktail business was born out of the lockdown, when she had the time and space to experiment with new cocktail recipes. "I was motivated to start my cocktail company during lockdown, where I found joy in experimenting with and tasting different cocktails," she explained.

As a Black entrepreneur, Korine emphasises the importance of representation. "My experiences drive me to infuse creativity, resilience, and community into my business. I aim to show that we can thrive in all spaces, including the beverage industry, by creating high-quality handcrafted cocktails that bring people together." Many of Korine’s drink creations, such as her popular Pineapple & Ginger Mojito and By The Sea, are infused with flavours inspired by her Caribbean heritage. Through K's Cocktails, she not only delivers delicious beverages but also celebrates cultural diversity.

Alisha from Present Your Joy

For Alisha, founder of Present Your Joy, her business was sparked by a passion for home fragrance and the importance of self-care. "I was initially motivated to start a business out of my love for home fragrance and my desire to encourage a bit of joy and emphasise self-care."

As her business evolved, so did her motivations. Alisha's journey through entrepreneurship has been deeply influenced by her experiences as a first-generation Black British woman and new mother. "Becoming a parent through this time has massively adjusted my whys," she says. "As a member of the Black community, it’s really taught me the importance of creating a generational legacy." Alisha’s commitment to building generational wealth and passing down a tangible legacy reflects her desire to help close the economic gap for future generations of Black entrepreneurs.

Kim from The Pretty Parlour

Kim’s journey into business started with a vision shaped by her upbringing with Jamaican parents, who instilled in her a deep sense of formality and respect. "I was driven by a desire to create something that reflected my upbringing, rooted in high standards and proper values," she shared. These values inspired her to launch The Pretty Parlour, a salon offering high-end nail treatments with a focus on excellent customer service.

Kim’s experiences as one of the few Black premises owners in Ealing Broadway fuel her sense of pride and responsibility. "It’s an honour, but it also places us in a position of being ambassadors for our community. We aim to knock stereotypes on their head by demonstrating excellence in all areas of our work." Kim is determined to show that Black-owned businesses can compete with the best in any field. Her goal is to make Black business ownership a common and celebrated part of Ealing’s entrepreneurial landscape.

As we celebrate Black History Month, it’s businesses like Present Your Joy, The Pretty Parlour, and K’s Cocktails that remind us of the diversity, creativity, and excellence that Black entrepreneurs bring to the local community. We’re incredibly proud to support these businesses and the remarkable women behind them.
