Ayvianna Snow: Ealing's Rising Star of British Indie Horror

Ayvianna Snow, a rising star in the world of independent horror, is quickly earning a reputation as the 'British Queen of Horror,' a title bestowed upon her by fellow actor and filmmaker Sean Cronin. An Ealing local, Ayvianna recently starred in two British indie films, Bogieville and Derelict, both of which had their world premieres at this year’s FrightFest, the 25th Anniversary of the celebrated horror festival in London.

In Bogieville, Ayvianna plays Mary, a vampire in a derelict American trailer park where a young couple unwittingly fall under the sinister control of Crawford, the lead vampire (played by Sean Cronin). The film has been praised for its unique twist on vampire lore, as well as its eerie atmosphere.

Meanwhile, in Derelict, Ayvianna portrays Anna, a character navigating a violent world of revenge. Directed by Jonathan Zaurin, this psychological thriller explores themes of empowerment and revenge, with Ayvianna’s raw and intense performance capturing the emotional complexities of her character.

Known for her versatility, Ayvianna has become a staple in indie sci-fi and horror films. But as she explains, her love for the genre goes beyond the roles she’s cast in—it’s the freedom and creativity that come with working in low-budget, independent films that truly appeals to her. And now, with her work being showcased at prestigious events like FrightFest, Ayvianna is proving that she’s a force to be reckoned with in British indie cinema.

Q&A with Ayvianna Snow

Both Bogieville and Derelict premiered at FrightFest this year. How did it feel to have your work showcased at such a prestigious horror festival, and what was the audience's reaction to these films?

Ayvianna: I am always privileged and honoured to have my films screen at FrightFest—it is a great platform for indie filmmakers to have their films on the same big screen as blockbuster premieres in Leicester Square. It’s a friendly, warm environment where I always feel welcome. The audience reaction was very positive for both films—both screenings sold out, and Bogieville even had a second screening, which Sean kindly allowed me to introduce. Without events like this, smaller indie projects would struggle to find an audience, so I am always grateful to FrightFest.

You’ve been described as the 'British Queen of Horror.' What draws you to the horror genre, and how do you prepare for the intense and often challenging roles that come with it?

Ayvianna: I don’t feel remotely deserving of the title, but it’s very kind of you to say! I think horror is able to tap into a very raw, primal part of us as human beings—fear is one of the most visceral emotions, taking us back to when we were living in caves, afraid of the dark. It hits parts of us you can’t hope to access with a period drama. Preparation is different for every role, but you just have to be willing to give all of yourself and not shy away from it. Also, don’t be concerned about looking pretty—horror isn’t pretty.

Working with visionary directors like Sean Cronin and Jonathan Zaurin, how do you collaborate to bring their unique visions to life, especially in the complex and demanding roles you’ve played in these recent films?

Ayvianna: I enjoyed working with both directors, as they gave me the freedom to bring my own creativity to the roles. Inexperienced directors can micromanage every move, which is draining, but both Sean and Jonathan had the confidence to let me bring something of my own to the roles. This was especially true with Anna in Derelict, as all of her dialogue was improvised. I’ve worked with the team at LBS Films before, so I felt very comfortable with the other actors, and we’ve developed a shorthand for working together, which really helps.

With her ever-expanding repertoire, Ayvianna Snow is solidifying her place in the indie horror scene, and with upcoming projects like The Final 45, it’s clear her range as an actor will only continue to grow. Keep an eye on Ayvianna as she conquers new genres and projects, always pushing boundaries and delivering unforgettable performances.
